Land Management

While the Port is a working industrial area, MWPA aims to protect and improve land quality where practical and feasible. For example, MPWA is committed to increasing its use of native, water-wise species in future planting schemes.

The port also routinely implements and prescribes a range of controls to prevent land and soil contamination from the industrial activities that occur at the port.

These environmental land management requirements are reflected in the Port’s Development Guidelines, which are intended to assist anyone who wishes to develop on land that is owned or managed by MWPA.

MWPA also undertakes coastal hazard risk management and adaption planning for the Port, to plan for the potential adverse impacts of coastal erosion and inundation associated with a changing climate.
