The International Day of the Seafarer 2023 will be marked on Sunday, 25th June by the ships in Geraldton Harbour sounding their horns at 12 noon.
To recognise the enormous contribution seafarers make to the global economy ships around the world are encouraged to sound their horn at 12 noon, local time.
MWPA CEO, Damian Tully said “when you hear the horns sound on Sunday, please take time to consider crew on board vessels around the world, and acknowledge their contribution to the transportation of goods around the world”.
Ideal viewing of the event is available at the end of the Esplanade at the viewing platform overlooking the harbour.
The Day of the Seafarer (25 June) was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila. The purpose is to recognise the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.
