Mid West Ports has officially opened its annual Community Grants Program which will see over $100,000 distributed to our community for projects and initiatives that align with Mid West Ports’ values and demonstrate positive contributions to our community.

The annual program provides funding for individual grants of up to $10,000 and are designed to help bring meaningful projects, events, and initiatives to life, strengthening the local region.

Mid West Ports CEO, Damian Tully highlighted the program’s ongoing impact, saying: “Over the years, we have seen firsthand the positive outcomes these grants contribute to our community, such as the annual Flotsam and Jetsam event, that supports both the environment and our local artists, or the Geraldton Tree Canopy Advocates, who are working to create a cooler, greener city; demonstrating the value of these projects within our community.”

“We are proud to support the passionate and dedicated volunteers in our community that drive these projects and initiatives. This program is one way we acknowledge and enable their efforts, helping bring their ideas to life for the benefit of our entire community.”

The Mid West Ports Community Grants Program supports a diverse range of local groups such as environmental improvement and protection initiatives, maritime-based education or activities, community welfare programs, youth education or leadership programs, community events, and initiatives supporting and creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

Past grant recipient and Backroads 2024 Event Manager, Gemma Dale, expressed her gratitude: “Thank you once again to Mid West Ports’ support of Backroads. Without the support of organisations like yours we would not be able to deliver this event in the Mid West. So, thank you!”

Backroads Gravel: Fields of Gold event, now in its third year, brings another unique event and opportunity to our region.  The event attracted 667 cyclists and 105 runners. Of those participants, 56% travelled from outside the region, highlighting the event’s ability to bring visitors and economic opportunities to the Mid West.

Another recipient from 2024/25, Fremantle Biennale’s Program Director, Katherine Wilkinson also praised Mid West Ports’ support for their 2024 project: “On behalf of the FB team we wanted to thank Mid West Ports again for your support of First Lights – Winthu Wangga. It was a very special night, and we have received such great responses from the community and a huge audience of over 6,000 people.”

Community groups, individuals, and organisations planning projects, events, or initiatives for the 2025/26 financial year are encouraged to apply. For more information or to submit an application, visit https://bit.ly/mwpagrants.
