Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) provides an essential service, connecting regional Australia to national and international markets as a specialist port catering to boutique and diverse operations. MWPA operates seven (7) commercial berths and critical marine and land assets which enables the facilitation of trade for the Mid West region, exporting a variety of products including iron ore, grains, mineral sands, non-mineral sands and mineral concentrates. The Port also imports fuel, fertiliser and break bulk cargo. The Port of Geraldton also encompasses the Geraldton Fishing Boat Harbour (FBH), home to Geraldton’s fishing industry. The FBH provides significant opportunities for further development of the Port and activation of a thriving commercial and leisure industry hub.

About the Role
Reporting to the Finance and Taxation Manager, the Financial Accountant administers the general accounting and taxation activities of MWPA including, but not limited to the preparation of financial reports for internal use, governmental reporting, account reconciliations, policy and procedure compliance and administration of key finance systems. The role is instrumental in assisting the Finance Manager in consolidating Port wide budgets, forecasts and monthly operational results as well as managing the transactional processes of Finance. Analysis of port results, financial process improvements and management of the fixed asset register will also form part of the role.
About You
Key Qualifications and experience (items to be addressed in Covering Letter):
Essential:
- Accounting or Finance Degree
- CPA or CA or studying towards certification
- Accounting skills including knowledge of payroll, capital accounting, tax and reconciliations of various accounts
- Strong analytical skills
- Sound experience in business improvements
- Competency with PC-based integrated accounting systems
- A good communicator, with good levels of both verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated time management skills with ability to manage concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Highly motivated self-starter who can work with minimum supervision
- High level of attention to detail
- Sound computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database systems
