Port Fire Fighting Project

Mid West Ports plays a critical role in the Mid West region economic supply chain, in addition to being situated within close proximity to residential and industrial areas of Geraldton.  A fire at the Port has the potential to have a significant impact on residents, business continuity and revenue generation at Geraldton Port.

This project allows Mid West Ports employees to provide an effective first-level response and provide time for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) to attend.

Project Scope:

  • Construct a port-wide fire services water main, pressurised from water pumps.  Fire service water pumps are proposed to utilise dedicated onsite water storage;
  • Install fire hydrant outlets, fire hose reels and portable fire extinguishers to enable fire brigade operations and initial fire attack throughout the operational areas of the Port;
  • Installation of connection points for mobile foam firefighting systems to Berth 6 for use during Bulk Fuel Transfer;
  • Installation of fire detection and occupant warning systems to areas that present a high risk to occupant evacuation and disruption to port operations. These areas include boat pens within the Fishing Boat Harbour, switch rooms, and Bulk Handling Facility (BHF) within the Main Harbour.

 The works are expected to be undertaken in late 2022 through to mid-2024.
