Northern Beaches Stabilisation Programme (NBSP)
Geraldton is a thriving coastal community well known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant foreshore.
The area to the north of Batavia Coast Marina, often referred to as the northern beaches, is a popular community destination offering walking and cycling paths, beautiful ocean views and various entertaining facilities including barbeques and shelters.
Ensuring the northern beaches remained a community hub in the future therefore became of great importance to Mid West Ports Authority, the City of Greater Geraldton and its citizens.
With some Port, Town Beach and Batavia Coast Marina structures interfering with the natural sand drift along the beach, MWPA and the City partnered together to create the Northern Beaches Stabilisation Programme.
As part of the plan, MWPA offered to complete beach sand replenishment works and remove a build-up of sand trapped at Pages Beach and relocate it for use as reclamation and nourishment of the northern beaches.
Over the last 12 years MWPA have continued to complete the nourishment works and annually deliver about 12,500m3 of sand to offset any potential erosion.
